Camilla Born MBE visits tepeo’s Wokingham facility as part of national Roadshow showcasing clean electric technologies
Wokingham | Tuesday 2 June — Camilla Born MBE, CEO of Electrify Britain, visited tepeo’s manufacturing and R&D facility in Wokingham today. The visit highlighted how British-made heat battery boiler technology can help more homes move away from fossil fuel heating.
Showcasing clean electric heating in action
The visit formed part of Electrify Britain’s national Roadshow. The campaign showcases homes, businesses and organisations that are switching to clean electric technologies.
tepeo, founded by Johan du Plessis in 2018, manufactures the ZEB. The ZEB is a smart heat battery boiler designed to replace gas, oil, LPG and direct electric boilers in suitable homes.
The ZEB stores electricity as heat. It can use cheaper off-peak electricity or surplus renewable power. Then, it releases that stored heat when the home needs warmth.
As a result, households can keep the familiar comfort of central heating while cutting emissions at the point of use.
A lower-disruption route away from fossil fuel heating
For many suitable homes, the ZEB offers a lower-disruption route to low-carbon heating. It works with wet central heating systems, including radiators or underfloor heating, subject to survey.
In addition, installation can often take just one to two days.
The visit comes as interest in heat batteries continues to grow. Heat batteries are expected to receive a £2,500 subsidy through the Government’s Boiler Upgrade Scheme, once the relevant standards and scheme rules are in place.
However, the industry is still calling for heat batteries to receive the same VAT relief as other low-carbon technologies. These include heat pumps, solar panels and electrical batteries.
Supporting fairer access to clean heat
Camilla Born MBE, CEO of Electrify Britain, said:
“It’s inspiring to see companies like tepeo delivering British-made solutions that make electrifying heat simple and accessible for homeowners. While we welcome the inclusion of heat batteries in the Boiler Upgrade Scheme, they remain at a clear disadvantage compared to heat pumps by not receiving VAT relief.
“Our Roadshow is all about showing the public and policymakers what’s already working across the country, from family homes to public sector buildings. We urge the Government to level the playing field so that all low-carbon heating technologies can compete fairly and deliver lower bills for British homes.”
Johan du Plessis, CEO and founder of tepeo, said:
“The transition to electric heating isn’t just a future goal — it’s happening right now. The tepeo heat battery boiler gives homeowners a better boiler, sooner.
“It delivers the same comfort people expect from a traditional system, but intelligently stores cheap, clean, off-peak electricity to significantly reduce carbon emissions.
“Showcasing our technology today reinforces the massive role UK manufacturing and innovation will play in delivering the clean heat revolution.”
Continuing the Electrify Britain Roadshow
The Electrify Britain Roadshow will continue visiting factories, homes and non-domestic buildings across the UK. The campaign aims to show how electrification can cut long-term energy costs, improve energy resilience and reduce reliance on fossil fuels.

About Electrify Britain
Electrify Britain is a campaign organisation launched by EDF and Octopus Energy. It aims to accelerate the electrification of Britain’s homes, businesses and transport.
The campaign works to cut energy bills, drive economic growth and support a cleaner energy system.
About tepeo
tepeo is a Certified B Corporation and British clean technology company. It manufactures the tepeo ZEB heat battery boiler in the UK.
The ZEB is designed as a practical replacement for fossil fuel boilers in suitable homes. It stores electricity as heat, often using lower-cost off-peak electricity. It then releases that stored heat through a home’s wet central heating system when warmth is needed.
This helps households reduce emissions at the point of use while keeping the familiar comfort of central heating.
