A simpler, smarter way to low carbon heating

Many people think that the only way to go low carbon in their home is either with a heat pump or a direct electric boiler. But there’s another excellent option for those who want to keep it low cost and simple: a heat battery boiler.

The tepeo boiler charges using off-peak electricity and stores that energy as heat, ready to use when your home needs it.

Smart Charging uses your tariff, local weather forecasts and expected heating demand to decide when, and how much, to charge – all of which can be monitored and controlled via the app.

Many customers find their running costs are broadly similar to gas heating with a familiar heating experience as well.

The clever bit: The ZEB learns when to charge

Smart Charging is where the ZEB really comes into its own.

It learns your habits, what the weather is doing and what your energy tariff looks like – then works out when, and how much, to charge to be cost efficient.

So instead of charging unnecessarily or drawing electricity at the wrong time, the ZEB can plan ahead and store heat when it makes sense. You can leave it to do its thing in the background, knowing it is constantly adjusting to your home’s needs.

And if you like seeing what’s happening, the tepeo App gives you the satisfying bit: clear graphs showing when your ZEB has charged, how much energy it has used, and how Smart Charging is helping you make the most of your tariff.

Why consider a heat battery boiler?

Familiar central heating

The ZEB delivers heat through suitable radiators or underfloor heating, so the way your home feels remains familiar.

Smart Charging Icon

Smart Charging

The ZEB considers your electricity tariff, the weather forecast and likely heating demand when deciding when and how much to charge to be efficient.

Quick & easy installation

Unlike a heat pump, the tepeo boiler can be installed within 1-2 days as a like-for-like replacement of your existing gas boiler.

Green Energy Icon

No fossil fuel burned

The ZEB does not burn gas, oil or LPG at the point of use.

Volatility Icon

Less volatility exposure

Electricity prices change, but moving away from gas, oil or LPG can reduce your reliance on internationally traded fossil fuels.

See why people are switching to a heat battery

Now fully electric: the ZEB helped Kevin leave gas behind

Kevin had already reduced his natural gas use by 65% with solar, EV charging, A2A heat pumps used for air conditioning and smart energy monitoring.

But he still needed one thing: a way to replace the central-heating role of his old gas boiler. The tepeo ZEB became the key to completing the switch.

It now works alongside Kevin’s electric setup, helping him disconnect from gas completely while keeping familiar central heating. Kevin told us it costs him just £1.60 to fully charge his ZEB through his Octopus tariff.

And with tepeo’s £2,500 Early Grant Match, Kevin was able to make the move sooner and save even more.

Is a heat battery boiler right for your home?

Our boiler typically works best in homes with:

  • Up to 12,000kWh annual heating and hot water use
  • 60kWh or less daily heat demand
  • Whole-home heat loss of 5kW or less
  • Radiators or underfloor heating
  • A hot water tank, or space for one
  • Suitable indoor space on a solid, level surface
  • Flats, bungalows, semi-detached or detached 2–4 bedroom homes

Every home is different, so we’ll confirm suitability through a short home check.

Should you get a heat pump or a heat battery boiler?

Heat pumps work well in many properties. But Britain’s homes are varied and no single low-carbon heating system will suit every one.

A heat battery boiler may be worth considering wheer:

  • there is limited space for an outdoor unit
  • planning or property constraints make an outdoor installation difficult
  • you want to retain a suitable wet central-heating system
  • you would prefer a potentially lower-disruption boiler replacement
  • your property’s heat demand, electrical supply and indoor space are suitable

The right answer starts with the property, not the technology.

Spread the cost. Keep moving forward.

Moving to lower-carbon heating is a significant household investment.

Finance options may be available for eligible customers who would prefer to spread the retail cost of the boiler rather than pay in full upfront.

Finance currently covers the boiler itself. Installation and any additional work are priced separately because the requirements vary from home to home.

Finance is subject to status, approval and terms. Final APR, repayments and total amount repayable may vary.
