Choosing a hot water solution

The tepeo ZEB heat battery is a heat-only boiler, so you’ll need a separate solution for your home’s hot water.

While we do not manufacture hot water systems, the ZEB is compatible with a variety of solutions that can be paired to suit your home.

Below, we’ve outlined some solutions to help you understand what might be suitable for your home. If you’re unsure, our team can also help you explore the options as part of your ZEB journey.

Hot water & your ZEB switch

Upgrading to a ZEB is a seamless way to electrify your heating, as it connects directly to your existing wet central heating system. Our tepeoPRO installers and in-house experts will help assess your system to also ensure your hot water strategy integrates perfectly.

What the switch means for your hot water depends on how your home currently heats its water:

If you already have a hot water tank

The ZEB can usually connect straight to your existing cylinder. However, it’s also a great time to explore whether upgrading to a smarter, more efficient electric setup could work well for your home.

If you have a combi boiler

Because the ZEB is a heat-only boiler, you’ll need to add a dedicated hot water solution. Explore the options below to see what our current customers use and what fits your home.

PCM Heat Battery

A PCM store is a compact heat battery that stores energy rather than hot water, then uses it to heat water on demand. It can charge using off-peak electricity or excess solar energy and typically takes up less space than a traditional cylinder. Different models can be installed either separately or alongside a ZEB.

Choose this option if you’d like:

A more compact alternative to a cylinder

Hot water heated on demand

No need to store a large volume of hot water

A modern solution that can make use of off-peak or solar electricity

Hot water cylinder

A hot water cylinder stores heated water ready for use. Modern models offer improved insulation and smart controls, making it easier to manage when and how your water is heated.

Depending on your home, you may need a vented or unvented cylinder. Your installer can recommend the best option based on your property and hot water needs. Cylinders can be heated indirectly by the ZEB or directly using an electric immersion heater.

Choose this option if you’d like:

A familiar hot water solution

A lower-cost option upfront

Plenty of stored hot water for your household

Flexibility to work with a range of existing setups

Smart cylinder

A smart cylinder heats water from the top down, so you only heat what you need. Smart controls can help you manage charging times, hot water volume and energy use, although they typically cost more upfront than a traditional cylinder. Like standard cylinders, they’re available in direct or indirect versions.

Choose this option if you’d like:

More control over your hot water

To heat only the water you’re likely to use

Better visibility of your hot water levels and usage

Smarter charging around tariffs or solar generation
