The clean heat transition will not be solved by one technology alone.
Heat pumps are an excellent solution for many homes – they are efficient, proven and will play a major role in helping households move away from fossil fuel heating, but some properties need another practical route away from gas, oil or LPG.
tepeo and Aira are working together to support more households on their journey to cleaner heating.
Why this partnership matters
The UK needs to move millions of homes away from fossil fuel heating. That means giving people clear, practical options that reflect the homes they actually live in.
For many households, a heat pump is the right answer. For others, a heat battery boiler may be more suitable.
By working together, Aira and tepeo can help more people find a low-carbon heating option that works for their property, rather than leaving them with no clear next step if one technology is not the right fit.
This matters because too many households still replace an ageing fossil fuel boiler with another fossil fuel boiler by default. Often, that’s not because they necessarily want to, it’s because they’re not aware of the alternatives available and need a quick fix in the moment.
A more flexible clean heat market gives households more confidence, more choice and more routes to make the switch to cleaner heating sooner.
Heat pumps and heat batteries: different technologies, shared goal
Heat pumps and heat battery boilers work in different ways.
A heat pump extracts heat from the air, ground or water and uses it to heat the home. It is highly efficient and is a great solution for many suitable properties. Heat pumps work best when they deliver heat ‘low and slow’, using lower temperatures to deliver consistent heat all day.
The tepeo heat battery boiler charges using electricity, stores that energy as heat, and releases it to the heating system when the home needs warmth, much like a fossil fuel boiler.
It does not require an outdoor unit, making it a great option for properties with limited outdoor space, and, like some heat pump installations, it can work with existing radiators and pipework.
Smart Charging considers the electricity tariff, local weather and expected heating demand to decide when to charge and how much heat to store.
Helping customers avoid dead ends
One of the biggest barriers in clean heating is what happens when a homeowner is told a heat pump is not suitable for them or their home.
If a heat pump is not the right fit, the conversation should not end there.
This partnership helps make sure more customers can keep moving forward. Instead of being left with uncertainty or simply defaulting to another fossil fuel system, they can explore another clean heat option that may suit their home better.
That is better for customers, better for installers, and better for the wider clean heat transition.
Built around suitability
tepeo does not believe in forcing technology into a home where it does not belong. Every heat battery boiler journey starts with understanding the property. The home’s heat demand, existing heating system, and access all need to be considered before a recommendation is made to go ahead with the installation.
If a tepeo heat battery boiler is not right for a home, we will say so.
That same suitability-first approach is what makes the partnership with Aira so valuable. It recognises that customer trust depends on giving honest guidance.
More choice means more homes can switch
The UK’s housing stock is varied. Detached homes, terraces, flats, rural properties, heritage and converted buildings all come with different constraints.
A successful clean heat transition needs a mix of technologies that can work across that diversity.
A better way to think about clean heating
The future of home heating should be about helping every household and equipping every homeowner with the knowledge to choose the right solution for their home. That’s why tepeo is pleased to be working with Aira: two clean heating companies, two different technologies, one shared mission.
