We spoke to Paul Campbell from Greenvision Energy about the importance of low carbon technology and a ZEB installation he did for the McClements family.
“I think the interesting low carbon has always been there; I think a lot of people struggle to understand what is going to be the best technology for them, and that’s where the likes of tepeo and Greenvision come in. We will make sure that if we are going to install one, that it is right for their property and is suitable for their property. And if it isn’t, we can recommend other products and services for that.
We’ve been installing [the ZEB] now for about 18 months. I think we were actually one of the first ones to actually carry out and do an installation under the tepeoPRO scheme.
What we find is both the training and from tepeo has been excellent. It’s what you need as an installer: somebody that you can call if you’ve got a problem or an issue or you need some help, and we find them absolutely superb if I’m honest!
The overall commissioning of the actual system is relatively straightforward, because the training that’s been given breaks the whole process down and there’s always that support – only a phone call away.
When we’ve done our first installations there was somebody there from tepeo to help and guide us through that process as well.
What’s particularly good for the ZEB as well is particularly people that have got maybe an oil boiler where the property is not suitable for an air source heat pump – with the ZEB being a direct replacement.
Like the property that we’ve got behind us now, was perfect where there was an oil boiler fitted. The customer didn’t wat to go down the route of an air source heat pump – the ZEB is a fantastic replacement. She’s also got solar PVs, she’s also got battery storage and an electric vehicle charging. The ZEB software can interlink with all of that.
We love the installation process because it’s straightforward. It can be done sometimes in a day, most cases it can be done in 2 days. It’s minimal disruption – because nobody likes having the house pulled apart (again, unlike air source heat pumps where it’s a lot more technical – you might have to upgrade radiator sizes etc.).
The tepeo app’s has quite a few developments. I compare it to like an iPhone: you can pick an iPhone up and can look at something and it instinctively works and you understand it. The user face is really easy to use.
The ZEB is pretty much plug and play – so there’s no a huge amount once it’s been commissioned and it’s up and running. We find it just works. We don’t have to go back, we don’t have to do anything, and it’s all down to the commissioning making sure that’s done right.
The feedback that we’ve had has been really, really good. I just feel that it needs to be promoted more. We need to get it out there because it’s a phenomenal product.
We see this massively helping Greenvision grow. There are millions of homes that obviously still have old oil boilers, people looking to upgrade their gas central heating systems that don’t want to go down the route of an air source heat pump…
It’s quick, it’s easy to install, it helps to reduce energy costs, and it helps to serve our planet. Why would you not want to install it?”
