The UK Government plans to include heat batteries in the Boiler Upgrade Scheme once the necessary standards and the scheme arrangements are in place.
But you don’t need to wait to explore whether a heat battery boiler could work for your home.
We are currently offering eligible homeowners a £2,500 Early Grant Match, which reduces the price of our heat battery boiler from £6,000 to £3,500.

What is the Boiler Upgrade Scheme?
The Boiler Upgrade Scheme, or BUS, is a government initiative designed to help households in England and Wales with the upfront cost of moving away from fossil-fuel heating.
Heat pumps are already supported through the scheme. The Government has also announced plans to extend support to heat batteries, with a £2,500 grant expected once the required standards and final arrangements are in place.
The exact timing and eligibility rules are still being confirmed.
Why tepeo is offering £2,500 now
Cost should not be a barrier to choosing a lower-carbon way to heat your home.
Our Early Grant Match reflects the level of future support planned for heat batteries, so suitable households can make the switch sooner rather than waiting for the expanded scheme to begain.
The current pricing is:
- tepeo ZEB retail price: £6,000
- tepeo Early Grant Match: £2,500
- tepeo ZEB after the offer: £3,500
Installation and any additional work are quoted separately following a free home survey.
Could your home be suitable?
The tepeo ZEB is designed for suitable homes with relatively modest heat demand and an existing wet central-heating system.
As a general guide, it may be a good fit if your home has:
- Annual heating and hot-water use of around 12,000kWh or less
- Daily heat demand of around 60kWh or less
- Whole-home heat loss of around 5kW or less
- Radiators or underfloor heating
- A hot-water cylinder, or enough space for a suitable separate hot-water solution
- Suitable indoor installation space on a solid, level surface
- Enough access to move the ZEB safely into position
- An electrical supply capable of supporting the installation
- Access to a suitable time-of-use or off-peak electricity tariff
The ZEB measures approximately 598 × 660 × 980mm, weighs 375kg, and has a rated electrical input of 9kW, so the proposed location and electrical supply both need to be checked carefully.
It is often suited to flats, bungalows and two- to four-bedroom homes, but property type alone does not determine suitability.
Our Home Check provides an initial indication. A digital assessment and detailed home survey will then confirm the home’s heat demand, electrical requirements, hot-water arrangements, installation location and any additional work needed.
How the process works
1. Complete the home check
Tell us a little bit about your property, current heating system and energy use.
This gives us an initial indication of whether our boiler may be worth exploring.
2. Continue online or speak with the team
If your home is suitable, you will be given the option to book in some time with a member of our team.
We strongly recommend that you do this, as you’ll be able to talk more specifically about your requirements with an expert and get advice should you wish to go ahead with a free in-person home survey.
3. Arrange a free, detailed home survey
If the initial assessment suggests the ZEB could be a good fit, we recommend you go ahead with an in-person home survey with one of our tepeoPRO installers. They will assess:
- the home’s heat demand
- radiators and pipework
- electrical requirements
- hot water needs
- the proposed installation location
- access and any additional work that may be required
Our tepeoPRO installers are trained and certified experts in installing our heat battery technology, so you will be in good hands.
After this survey, they will be able to provide an accurate installation quote.
4. Confirm your installation
If you decide to go ahead, your installer will agree the final plan and installation date with you.
A typical ZEB installation may take 1-2 days, although this depends on the property and the work involved. Replacing a combi boiler may take longer because a separate hot water solution will normally be needed.
5. Receive ongoing support from our team
Support continues after installation. tepeo customers can access:
- the tepeo App
- troubleshooting and customer support
- the Help Centre
- the ZEB owner community
- servicing and care options
- system monitoring
Do you need to wait for the government grant?
No.
If your home is suitable and you wish to go ahead with a tepeo heat battery boiler, then you can receive our Early Grant Match now.
That means you do not have to wait for the government scheme to begin before moving away from gas, oil or LPG. You can start exploring a lower-carbon option now, reduce fossil fuel use in your home and get ready for a reliable winter.
Waiting may still make sense for some households that wish to do a bit more research before taking the leap with new technology. However, the final government scheme arrangements are not yet in place and the current tepeo offer gives suitable customers the option to act sooner.
Could you spread the cost of your ZEB?
Moving to lower-carbon heating is a significant household investment. For eligible customers who would prefer not pay the full product and installation price upfront, finance options may be available.
Is a heat battery boiler right for every home?
Honestly? No.
Heat pumps are an excellent lower-carbon heating option for many properties, particularly where there is suitable outdoor space. But they are not the only route away from gas, oil and LPG.
A heat battery boiler may be a better fit where:
- there is limited or no suitable space for an outdoor unit
- a wider heat pump retrofit would be difficult or disruptive
- you want to retain radiators and pipework where possible
- you prefer the familiar feel of traditional boiler-based central heating
- your property has suitable indoor space and electrical capacity
- you can access an appropriate off-peak or time-of-use tariff
The tepeo boiler is installed indoors and supplies a suitable wet central heating system. In many homes, existing radiators and pipework can be retained, although this must be confirmed during the assessment.
It is also designed to feel familiar in day-to-day use. Heat is delivered through radiators or underfloor heating, while Smart Charging works in the background to consider your tariff, local weather, and forecast expected heat demand.
The question is not whether a heat battery boiler or heat pump is better in general; it is which lower-carbon heating system is right for your home. That is why we start with suitability.
Start by checking if your home is suitable
Got 1 minute? That’s how long it takes to complete our home check.
Simply enter your address and our system will automatically pull publicly-held information about your home and then we’ll ask you just to confirm a few additional bits before telling you if your home could work well with a heat battery boiler.
At the end of the check, you’ll be given the opportunity to book in with Natasha, our expert, to talk through your specific property and requirements in much more detail.
